PROCLAMATION NO. 187/1999 A PROCLAMATION TO PROVIDE AMEND THE ELECTORAL LAW OF ETHIOPIA PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, it is found necessary to amend the proclamation to make the Electoral law of Ethiopia conform with the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with a view to enhancing the opportunity to stand for election in respect of citizens engaged in government employment;

NOW, THEREFORE, in accordance with Article 55(1) and (2) (d) of the constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it is hereby proclaimed as follows:

1.    Short Title
This Proclamation may be cited as the “A Proclamation to make the Electoral Law of Ethiopia Conform with the Construction of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (Amendment) Proclamation No. 187/1999.”

2.    Amendment
Article 46 of the Proclamation to make the Electoral law of Ethiopian conform with the Construction of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Proclamation No. 111/1995, is amended as follows:
1.    Sub-Article (1) is deleted;
2.    The previous Sub-Articles (2) and (3) are renumbered as Sub-Articles (1) and (2) respectively.
3.    The phrase “referred to in Sub-Article (1) of this Article”, appearing at the beginning of Sub-Article (1), is deleted.
4.    Effective Date
This Proclamation shall enter into force as of the 2nd day of December, 1999.
